I started The Mythoversal Newsletter in 2020 to update readers on my writing projects, especially in Greek mythology. I included my takes on mythology and mythology-inspired media, my theory that myth-making is a continuous process that’s ongoing into modern times, and, most especially, a variety of proofs that diversity and inclusion were once inherent to Classical works and needed to be restored.
In 2021 and 2022, I began to explore emerging technologies and their application to the process of creating and disseminating mythology—the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves. The Web3 space is decentralized, fractured into a thousand intersectional communities, each in search of their own self-defining “lore.”
I’ve seen this space evolve, day by day, through transformational changes that have brought challenges, growing pains, and controversies.
2022 was the year that artificial intelligence first entered the creative realms in a big way, touted by some as the key to unlocking our full potential, and dismissed by others as a potentially existential threat.
Cryptocurrencies went bust, but the builders in the Web3 space kept building. The markets turned from bull to bear, but the creators kept creating. The warming climate caused droughts and storms, but the Ethereum blockchain successfully “merged” into a cleaner version of itself.
The past year proved that algorithmic stablecoins are inherently unstable, that currency exchanges are regulated for a reason, and that scammers will always garner more media attention than honest dealers.
In the world at large, traditionally marginalized identities continued to gain rights, representation, and respect despite a headwind of increased censorship, bigotry, and fascistic tendencies.
Gandhi’s exhortation, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” has been at the top of my mind. Through Mythoversal, I sought to restore social justice to the works of antiquity. As Cryptoversal, I’m working to apply social justice and sustainability to the Web3 space through the power of Story.
Therefore, for 2023, The Mythoversal Newsletter will move forward as The Mythoversal Cryptoversal, expanding its focus to include the stories we tell ourselves about our future as well as the stories we tell ourselves about our past.
The upcoming year will focus on community and collaboration. I’ll put out more content on a more consistent schedule and provide extra value for premium subscribers. I hope you will join me, that I can count on your continued support, and that together we can be the change we wish to see in the world.

Why do you think the 'Web 3 space' (and I use that term very generously) matters? Everything so far that's emerged from the 'space' has been a scam at minimum - AI included.
